Malloy/Bell Announces the Merger of The Malloy Firm and The Bell Firm

We are thrilled to share exciting news about the future of our practice. Beginning January 1, 2026, The Malloy Firm and The Bell Firm will officially join forces to form Malloy/Bell, a combined legal practice serving clients throughout Maine with expanded experience, deeper capacity, and a continued commitment to personalized, responsive counsel.

A Partnership Built on Respect and Shared Values

This merger reflects a natural alignment between Attorneys Michael Malloy and Shawn Bell, who have known each other for many years as colleagues, friends, and professional mentors. As Michael shared with clients, Shawn is an AV-Rated attorney with more than thirty years of experience and a longstanding reputation as a trusted advisor in the Lewiston–Auburn community.

Shawn’s depth of knowledge in business law, real estate, estate and gift taxation, and complex commercial developments complements Michael’s work with Maine businesses, private practices, and families. Together, our combined firm will bring the best of both approaches forward—strengthening our ability to serve clients with excellence, responsiveness, and care.

What This Means for Our Clients

Although our name will change, one thing will not: our commitment to you.

Our offices will remain located at Two Great Falls Plaza in Auburn, and Attorney Malloy will continue serving as your lawyer—now with enhanced resources and the support of a larger, highly experienced team.

Each attorney brings complementary areas of knowledge to the new practice. For example:

  • Attorney Bell has extensive experience with estate and gift taxation, forward and reverse like-kind exchanges, and some of Maine’s most significant commercial development projects.

  • Attorney Malloy brings broad experience in business formation, commercial transactions, M&A, estate planning, and employment law.

  • Together, they offer a strengthened general counsel–style approach informed by decades of local experience.

We are also fortunate to welcome Senior Paralegal Barbara Tracy, who has worked alongside Attorney Bell for over twenty years and is widely regarded as one of Maine’s most experienced real estate and commercial paralegals. Her long-term partnership with Shawn is a tremendous asset to the merged firm.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

This merger was formed with you—our clients—at the center. As Michael noted in his letter, “I’m not going anywhere, and I think you will be delighted by these changes.” We believe the combined strength of Malloy/Bell will be a “winning combination” that enhances the service, responsiveness, and strategic support you rely on.
